From the company's beginnings as an excavator and road developer in the 1800s, Paving Materials and Construction Company has emerged as a leader in comprehensive site development and site maintenance. Constructing Route 1 between Rahway and Elizabeth was an early major success. A truly unique project was site work for the construction of the township of Winfield Park during World War II.

As the company grew in the '50s it completed numerous major paving projects for the State of New Jersey, local municipalities and industrial companies. The '60s and '70s saw a major construction boom in the New York metropolitan area. PMC became a driving force in the construction of main arterial roads and expansion of Newark Airport.
